Thank you for visiting my blog! I have a passion for writing – poetry, journalism, creative non-fiction and even plays. You name it, I have probably written or professionally edited it. Since I completed my thesis in 2013, and read parts of it at the Creative Nonfiction Collective Society’s conference in 2015, I’ve written next to nothing “creative”. That side of my writing life has been limited to an annual Christmas letter, greeting card inscriptions, random journal entries and indulgent Facebook post. There are many reasons and excuses for this, but suffice to say, my life circumstances have recently and radically changed.
For 12 months, I will be living in Saint Lucia, volunteering with Cuso International. I’m excited, terrified and also deeply grateful for this opportunity. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. So, goodbye, Victoria, B.C., and hello warm days and nights, big-assed toads, stellar beaches, wild tropical storms and new faces, races and experiences that no doubt will change me.
My hope is this personal blog project, Not a Robot, will be a place to start exercising my creative writing and exercise my writer’s voice again. What you’ll likely find is a wordy place for anything and everything, nothing or something, little snippets or musings, poems or stories, but in any case, some writing. Maybe Caribbean related, maybe human, fish, sex, music, food related, who knows. I don’t, and that’s the fun part.
What I do know – the blog entries will be personal and based on my lived experiences; they will be honest, and they will belong only to me. They will not represent views and opinions of people, institutions or organizations I may be associated within a professional or personal capacity, unless explicitly stated (see my Disclaimer page for more on all that business).
I look forward to hearing from you.
